NEW FEATURE

After 5 years of painting from my imagination, I'm ready for another layer of challenge: how about adding a partner! This page is where you can find information about working WITH ME in my custom artwork process.

The biggest things to know:

1. I'd love to paint something IN MY STYLE (not a knock off of someone else's) and in a size and color palette that fits your space.

2. The prices on my website are comparable to my custom prices except that: there is a $50 design fee and "in progress" design change fees

How does the “Custom Art” process with me work? I’ll spell out the 11 steps in some detail.

  1. Look through my website and identify titles of work you like. You might make notes of what you like. Remember: we’re not going to copy a piece but just knowing which things you like in other pieces starts to help me understand you better. (Also, notice the size of pieces and their prices for an idea of what the price will be for your artwork.)

  2. Identify the space that will receive your art. Instead of finding a piece you love and having to move everything and redecorate around it, with custom art, you can identify that space you have first. We can decide on the canvas size that will work for that space.

  3. HOME “VISIT”: It helps me understand you better and create a piece that will fit you and your space better if I can see where it’s intended to land: whether in person or with a video or by sharing pictures. *Note: If you would like to “just have me do my thing” with a certain size and color palette– create blind, so to speak– that’s fine too!

  4. I mock up a design. Considering what you have liked in other pieces of my work, the size/shape of your desired wall art, and your overall home decor, I start my creative process. I play with combinations of shapes and colors until I have something that feels like a piece that I’d be excited to create; then I see what you think.

  5. Collaboration begins. Here’s the part that holds good energy and challenges me as an artist. When I’m creating solo, I don’t run ideas by anyone. I just make what I want to make. So working with someone else offers a chance to talk about my ideas and hear yeses but also get pressed to move beyond my initial idea, finding new territory that I wouldn’t have gotten to otherwise.

  6. After our talk, I’ll adjust the design again and hope we’re in agreement.

    1. If we can’t find a design you like and want to move forward with, we’ll stop here and your total bill for this design process will be $50.

    2. If we are in agreement and move forward, I will provide an estimate for the project. If you would like me to start painting, half of the estimated cost of the project is due at this time

  7. Solo painting time begins. I have our agreed upon design plan and I will get to work. Depending on the number of pieces and their sizes, I can usually have your art completely done in about one month.

  8. When I am about 70% done, I’ll send pictures for you to see how the piece is developing. At this time, you can tell me:

    1. Great– keep going and finish it up!

    2. There’s something I’m not liking and need a change.

CHANGE ELEMENTS: Some changes are fairly minor and can be easily made and I’m happy to do those, free of charge; but other changes can have a “ripple effect” that can almost be a complete makeover for the entire piece and, in those cases, I will need to add an additional fee. I will be as open with you as possible in these cases but they will each be their own individual case so I’ll be figuring it out as I go, wanting to make sure that a change in design still ends up with you having a great-looking finished piece of art. One change can end up leading to more changes than we first may think. The best I can do is to promise that I will keep you as updated along the way as I can.

3. What if I’m not liking this and I don’t want the painting anymore? If we’re at a complete impasse, then you can walk away and not owe the remaining 50% of your bill. I hope this is never the case because you are at a loss and I am too. I can’t imagine this happening but, hypothetically, I suppose it could. I will do my best to be very clear in my communication throughout my process and I believe that can help us avoid this outcome.

9. Done painting! I will send pictures when I am done painting and before I start the varnishing process. Any changes at this time must be tiny, but can be done before the final steps. This would be a good time, if you want to see the piece in person, for you to come and see it.

10. Seal & Varnish & Wire: Your artwork will get a sealant that adds UV protection, then it will get a topcoat varnish and cure time. Finally, I will wire it so it will be ready to hang.

  1. Final payment is due.

  2. Installation: I’m happy to deliver and help you hang your artwork

  3. If you’d like to pick it up and do that yourself, that’s fine too.

  4. I’d love a picture once it’s at home and in place. We did it! The process is done & I hope you love your custom artwork!
